How to Commission an Original Work

By commissioning an an original work you decide the subject matter and the size of the work.

Once we have agreed on the content of the work, have sufficient photographic reference for me to work from and agreed the cost I will send you a 'rough' sketch showing a proposed composition. This sketch is for your approval or comment. On approval I will start the painting. On completion of your painting you will be sent a photo (digital file) of the work for final approval or comment. On approval I will sign the work and get it ready for delivery. I use gouache on board for paintings. The whole process takes about 3 weeks.

Pencil Sketches

Once we have agreed on the content of the work, have sufficient photographic reference for me to work from and agreed the cost I will send you a photo (digital file) of the finished work for approval before signing it and getting it ready for delivery in about 2 weeks. I use pencil on heavyweight cartridge paper for sketches.

1966 Can Am Champion John Surtees, Lola T70 leads Jim Hall's Chaparral at Riverside.

Memories of that epic battle I had with Jim Hall in the Chaparral at Riverside, California, whilst driving the Lola T70 are vividly recalled when looking at Martin's painting of me en-route to winning the Riverside race and the inaugural Can-Am Championship in 1966.
